The Northern Ireland Open starts today (12 Nov 2018) and has a sensational lineup: all top players are present in the draw. Part of the Home Nations series (along with the English Open, Welsh Open and Scottish Open), the Northern Ireland Open trophy is named after Alex Higgins, the legendary snooker player who passed away in 2010. Mark Williams opens the ball against Alfie Burden, followed by Mark Selby vs Anthony Hamilton.
Ronnie O’Sullivan, who just won the Champion of Champions last Sunday, will also be present in Belfast, opening against Soheil Vahedi in the section 5 of the draw, which looks like an easy one for The Rocket. Kyren Wilson also has an easy section and might meet Neil Robertson in the last 16.
Same goes for the section 1, where Mark Williams might have and easy run through the last sixteen. From the first round to the quarterfinals, the tournament is played by “best of 7 frames”, which means the winner is the first one who reaches four. The final will be played “best of 17”. Prize for the winner is £70,000.
